Metaphoric Self Portrait
As a teacher I would like to be a light for my students. I have been interested in photography since I was a child and have been working as a photographer for the last eight years. Lighting in photography is extremely important; without it you do not have an image. I would like to light the way for my students by being a good example. In my classroom I would like to teach teamwork, as well as setting students up to feel confident working on their own.
I feel that as a teacher I will be a life long student as well. I will be constantly learning to better my photography skills and my knowledge of education. I want my students to be taught using the most recent information and techniques for teaching art.
An important part of my daily life as a teacher will be to make sure that my students feel loved. I want my students to feel safe in my classroom and know that they are entering an accepting inclusive environment when they walk through the door.
As an art teacher I will be also working as an artist. I want to show students that art is not just for in the classroom. By continuing to work as a photographer, I feel that I will be able to teach my students the most recent information available in my field as well as the history of different techniques that have been used. In order to fully understand art's present I feel that students will need to understand art history.
